Pita Bread Slices and Mutton in Heichi, Heyang

According to the folklore, pita bread slices and mutton in Heichi town, Heyang was introduced by the Mongolians in the Yuan Dynasty (1206 – 1368) and passed down since then. Due to its thick grease, delicious taste, affordable price, and substantial features, it is known as one of the four great famous snacks in the central Shaanxi plain. In the past, there had been a saying of “I would eat a plate of pita bread slices and mutton rather than a table of dishes”, showing the popularity of this dish among the masses.
