The name “Shaanxi” came into being in the beginning of the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 B.C. --- 771B.C.). Since the Shaanxi Province was a part of the Qin State in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring State Period, it is also called “Qin” or “Three Qin” (Northern Shaanxi, Central Shaanxi Plain and Southern Shaanxi). The Shaanxi Province is in the center of China and upper reaches of the Yellow River, its total area is 210,000 square kilometers and its population is about 37.4 million. The province is cold in winter and hot in summer and has four distinctive seasons. Its annual mean temperature is between 7℃-16℃, and the period between March and November is the best period for touring in the Shaanxi Province.

In the long history of the Chinese civilization, the “Three Qin” area was always a very important area. The eastern end of the long and world-renowned “Silk Road” was in the Shaanxi Province. Starting from 11th Century B.C., 13 dynasties, including the Zhou Dynasty (1046 B.C. --- 256 B.C.), Qin Dynasty (221 B.C. --- 206 B.C.), Han Dynasty (206 B.C. --- 220 A.D.) and Tang Dynasty (618 A.D. --- 907 A.D.), established their capitals in this area and 73 emperors were in power in this area. It was a long and prosperous history, and countless rare historical and cultural heritages have been left over. In the Shaanxi Province, more than 2 million pieces of cultural relics of various kinds and more than 35,750 sites of cultural relics are preserved. The number, level and sorts of the cultural relics are largest, highest and most in the world.

The renowned Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor Terracotta Warriors and Horses, known as the “Eighth Wonder of Ancient World,” shows the great creativity of ancient Chinese people. The Famen Temple, which is the only temple that preserves the remains of Sakyamuni, is a sacred place to Buddhists of various countries. The Qian Tomb, which is the only tomb of an emperor and queen, still shows evidence of the great and majestic Tang Dynasty. The Huaqing Hot Spring, which witnessed the romantic love of the Tang Xuanzong Emperor and the concubine Yang Guifei, is still telling tourists the ancient love story.

The Shaanxi Province has not only the splendid cultural relics and deep cultural accumulation but also magnificent rivers and mountains. The middle section of the Qinling Mountain, where the panda, golden monkey and many other rare animals live, is in the Shaanxi Province. The Mount Huashan, which is known for its steep landscapes, is in the Shaanxi Province. The Yellow River, which is the mother river of the Chinese nation, also flows through the province and has given the province many majestic landscapes, such as the Hukou Waterfall.

In the Shaanxi Province, tourists could also enjoy folk arts, such as the Qinqiang Opera, puppet show, Northern Shaanxi yangko, peasant painting, paper cutting and clay sculpture. And they could enjoy special local delicacies such as the Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup.

The ancient, beautiful and splendid Shaanxi Province is waiting for you sincerely!
