In a bustling temple fair in Huozhou, north China's Shanxi province, you could see that all the children had a "painted face". Why did they put on makeups? According to local folk legend, the inventor of painted face in Chinese traditional operas was Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty (618-907), so it is auspicious to have a "painted face" for children.
