After reading a post on the Internet at the beginning of this year, many people met to eat noodles in Zhengzhou, capital of central China’s Henan province.

The post was written by Li Gang, a 42-year-old man who runs a noodle shop with his wife Jing Xiaomin in the outskirts of Zhengzhou. The peace of his family suffered a terrible blow when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer. He explained that the treatment would be expensive, and he expressed the hope that people would offer a helping hand by having a meal in his noodle shop.

Li Gang’s post soon went viral among Zhengzhou netizens . “Just cannot say no to such a simple request,” said on netizen. Friends began to ask each other: “Will you come and eat some noodles with me?”

A noodle shop which looked no different from any other, located far from the downtown area, became a favorite destination in the city. A cab driver said he had driven many people to Li Gang’s shop in a few days.

At lunch time, people coming to offer a helping hand filled all of the 32 seats in Li Gang’s shop. They tried in various ways to relieve the couple’s suffering. A man insisted on leaving a 100 yuan note and rejected the change. “Everyone has his own difficulties. I can only do my small part to help,” he said.

In a notebook, Jing Xiaomin wrote down dozens of names and phone numbers. “We will return the extra money after my husband recovers. We want to live on the earnings of our little business, not by depending on donations,” she said.

Seeing the shop was shorthanded, three young men stopped eating and offered to serve other guests as temporary waiters. “I'm just doing what I can. Hope my effort and the power of love can make this city a better place, ” said one of the three.
