Although the United States claimed that it will not hold a stance on the Diaoyu Islands issue, it publically stressed that the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty applies to the Diaoyu Islands issue.
Shortly after being reelected prime minister, Shinzo Abe urged Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera to amend the Japan-US defense cooperation guidelines as soon as possible. In the context of eastward shift of U.S. strategy and tense situation of the Diaoyu Islands, the United States also made a positive response on amendment of the Japan-US defense cooperation guidelines, taking sides with Japan on the Diaoyu Islands issue in a more direct way.
Japan and the United States repeatedly stated that the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty applies to the Diaoyu Islands issue, which has seriously damaged the China-U.S. and China-Japan relations, further made the security situation of East Asia complicated and increased the difficulties of solving the issues on maritime rights and interests and territorial sovereignty between the East Asian countries.
China hopes that those countries attempting to infringe the territorial sovereignty of China's Diaoyu Islands can reposition the Japan-U.S. alliance in an era of globalization and regional cooperation, and the amended Japan-US defense cooperation guidelines can consider the common interests of Asia-Pacific.
Only in this way, they can maintain the so-called "self-interests." Otherwise, they are impossible to maintain the harmony, prosperity and stability of the Asia-Pacific region and their countries only by the "value-oriented diplomacy," the "Arc of Freedom and Prosperity" and the hegemony of Japan-U.S. alliance.
