Focus shift: Atlantic-Pacific
According to Michael Barber, in the past 20 years, the global economy has moved as fast in the east direction as it did over a hundred years moving west. The pace of change as well as the extent of the change is a very remarkable thing in Asia. And the biggest single influence on the move of globally economic centre gravity eastward is the development of China. China is going to be a leader and learner. We have seen great economic progress as well as education progress in China. This is the context of the 21st century.
This region is leading the world, in the 19th and 20th centuries, Britain and the United States were the global leaders, but in the 21st century, Asia Pacific is the centre of global economy. The focus shifts from Atlantic to Pacific has made China an important role in the region at a time when many problems are facing mankind.
