A village with only 14 villagers (3)

People's Daily Online)  16:53, August 27, 2012

The Zhao Liang Village is originated from an old story. According to the legend, during the Song Dynasty, a prince was shocked by the emperor, also his brother’s action of firing the building built for those loyal ministers. He was tired of all the intrigue against each other in the palace and decided to find a far away and a quiet place to spend the rest of his life. He walked and walked, and one day, he reached a beautiful place and decided to build houses there. He named the village Zhao Liang (Liang means kind-hearted in Chinese) hoping the descendants of the Zhao’s family can always have kind hearts. Since then, the Zhao Liang village was born.

This village is now the most remote village in the Zezhou County of Jincheng, Shanxi Province. Due to the geological conditions and inconvenient transportation, there are no schools, shops and clinics in this village. Throughout these years, many villagers have moved to elsewhere, leaving only 14 people from 7 families in the village. The village is a typical aging society with the youngest villager 64 years old. These families have been living in the Zhao Liang Village for many generations. Although their lives have been difficult and poor, they are enjoying this far away peaceful place with kind hearts. Hopefully one day, this village can be seen by more people and got more attention from the public.
