By Chen Lidan, Zhu Rui (People's Daily Online)

PD Online: How do the African people think of China’s development in recent years?

Ren: The African people admire the great achievements China has obtained since implementation of the Reform and Opening up. They believe that the Chinese people are very industrious and choose a right path of development. At present Africa is in the phase of rapid development. They sincerely hope they can embark on the same road of development as China’s by means of cooperation with China.

PD Online: Why can China and Africa maintain the long-term friendly relations? What efforts do both sides make for the bilateral relations?

Ren:The relations between China and Africa have a long history. As early as the 15th century, Zheng He, the great navigator in Ming Dynasty, commanded voyages to such areas as Somalia and Kenya in East Africa for goods exchange four times. Since China had the similar tragic history as African nations in the past, China provided them with moral and material support from 1960s to 1980s.

Therefore, we can say the relations between China and African nations are as close as brotherhood.

Since the foundation of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the two sides have established the friendly and cooperative relations based on mutual interests and benefits. The relations feature the solid base, pragmatic cooperation and broad vision. The African people are friendly to Chinese and grateful for our help.

As a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, China always upholds justice in the issue of African nations' sovereignty, actively calls on to support the development of African continent, and mediates for the solution of hotspot issues in Africa.

China and Africa help each other. It is with Africa’s all-out support that China was able to resume its seat in the United Nations. In such important events as 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2010 Shanghai Expo, African nations offered a lot of help. When China suffered disasters like Wenchuan Earthquake, they did everything they could to assist China though they were not rich.
