Frequent recalls in three years

In addition to consumer complaints, IKEA's frequent recalls in recent years have also increased people's worries over the quality of its products.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a report that IKEA would recall about 5,000 track lighting units in the United States and 97,000 worldwide. The ground connection in the recalled product is defective, posing an electric shock hazard. In January, the company issued a global recall of its ANTILOP high chairs because the high chair's restraint buckle could open unexpectedly, posing a fall hazard to the child.

According to available statistics, IKEA recalled four products in January, March, and October of last year alone. The IKEA products recalled in the past few years include teapots, curtains, children's chairs, sleeping bags, and sofa beds.

According to official statistics form IKEA, the company has cut the overall prices of its products by around 50 percent since it entered the Chinese market in 1998. Has the quality of IKEA products been falling amid price cuts? A senior executive at IKEA China said, "IKEA's goal is to provide a wide variety of beautiful and practical household items at affordable prices on the basis of sustainable development, but not at the expense of the quality or safety of our products." Even so, IKEA is still gradually losing consumer trust.
