People’s Daily Online: So as we are an online website, do you have any online events?

Ambassador: Sometimes we invite the Chinese media, and they are online sending the images of what we are doing.

People’s Daily Online: In 2010, Pilsen won the title of "European Cultural Capital in 2015". One American writer described Pilsen as a large version of 798 Art Area of Beijing. What is your comment about this?

Ambassador: We are very happy for Pilsen. Pilsen is the fourth biggest Czech city. And Pilsen is known especially because of beer - Pilsener beer is coming from Pilsen. One of the old breweries has now been reconstructed and it’s like 798, it has been made into a space for culture. There is a lot of workshops, there are some small galleries. But the difference between 798 and Pilsen is that in Pilsen, the whole city is open for culture. There are lots of performances, theaters, also some paintings in the streets. So Pilsen will be the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2015 and they are preparing now very hard themselves for this.

People’s Daily Online: So you know Beijing is also a city full of art, what do you think of the differences and similarities between Beijing and Pilsen?

Ambassador: Obviously Beijing is a world capital, one of the largest cities in the world. It’s very nice, with an atmosphere. But Pilsen is small, more familiar, more close to daily life. But I think both cities are very comfortable for life, and both cities are very rich in culture and art.

People’s Daily Online: Thank you. The historical spots in Prague have attracted more and more visitors from all over the world. What do you think of the relationship between the urban economic development and the preservation of historical sites?

Ambassador: The Czech Republic is very famous because of the capacity to conserve very nicely the historical monuments. It’s not only Prague, but also Český Krumlov, Karlovy Vary,, and many other cities which are very nicely conserved. So I think we are lucky and happy that really we could manage to develop the city, to make the economic life much more active, but at the same time to maintain the historical tradition and the historical, beautiful architecture. So the Czech cities are untouched from this point so that they are attracting a lot of people. Yes, we have a knowledge in this field, and we try to share it. For example, nowadays, there is cooperation with Shanghai municipality, they would like to see our system to conserve monuments. So we have opened the dialogue with our Chinese friends, Chinese partners also in this field.
