Lonely day

Not all those who remain single take Valentine's Day so lightheartedly. Sun Yin, a 27-year-old bachelor living in Jiangsu Province, is trying to figure out the best way to avoid the day completely.

"My parents have arranged eight blind dates for me in the last two weeks, and have even set one up for Valentine's Day, which only reminds me of my bachelor status and leaves me feeling under enormous pressure," Sun said.

A 24-year-old single woman in Weihai, Shandong Province, who requested anonymity, said she feels depressed when she sees others celebrating Valentine's Day, while she is left alone.

"When Valentine's Day arrives, many shops offer discounts, gifts and special activities for couples. It only makes me feel more lonely, on days like that I prefer to stay home as the couples celebrate," she said.
