But Caterpillar's growth in China is by no means an even path. Though entering China early, the U.S. manufacturing giant, partly due to its slowness at the start-up stage, did not make a big move in China until the early 1990s, when Caterpillar began building out a manufacturing footprint in China. The efforts got rewarded and the company's revenue in China started climbing in recent years. In the coming years, Caterpillar's growth is bound to speed up on China's rapid urbanization and industrialization. Doug Oberhelman, the head of the company, has set a goal of making Caterpillar the top brand in its industry in China by 2015.
