Controlled by the Beijing Aerospace Control Center, the two spacecrafts gradually approached and finally re-docked after a series of technical movements.

This operation aimed to test the performance of the combination’s disengaging and rendezvoused measurement devices at the sunny area as well as the second docking of space lab module Tiangong-1 and unmanned spacecraft Shenzhou-8.

To fully assess the performance of optical measurement devices in the lighting conditions, most procedures of the disengaging and docking test were completed at the sunny area. But the docking operation was finished in shaded areas.

After the re-docking of space lab module Tiangong-1 and unmanned spacecraft Shenzhou-8, Beijing Aerospace Control Center continued to observe and control the combination carefully to prepare for the next disengaging and the return of the Shenzhou-8.
